The Aviation Sector Support Programme (ASSP II) resumed live support in Zambia in November 2021, with separate workshops for Industry and for CAA Inspectors on Safety Management topics provided by the project SSP/SMS expert, Dr. Hazel Courteney. The first meeting of the National Aviation Safety Committee was Chaired by Zambia’s DGCA, and initial protocol discussions were held with the newly formed AAIB (Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Body). Other activities included a visit to Ndola airport and continued progress with implementation of the State Safety Programme (SSP), plus a draft article for the CAA magazine on wildlife management. A proposal for a new set of SPIs was formulated and provided for consideration. Zambia CAA Inspectors spent a day familiarising with a new SMS (Safety Management Systems) Audit Tool and practicing SMS audit techniques.
