On 21 May 2018, ZASTI hosted the 1st safety promotion activity in  Zambia, organised by the ASSP-II Z in cooperation with ZCAA. The SSP/SMS Awareness Raising Conference was attended by 68 participants from the EU Delegation to Zambia and COMESA, the Zambian Civil Aviation Authority,  EASA, ZASTI and airlines.

The overall objective of this activity was  to assist the Civil Aviation Authority in Zambia in implementing an effective and sustainable State Safety Programme. Among other actions the Authority and the Project have identified that Safety promotion is a key component in the Zambian Aviation Sector at this moment. The Zambian aviation industry is growing and external indicators show that arrivals of passengers will continue to grow in the coming years.

The conference focused on:

• a brief introduction on safety management concepts, 

• how to implement a safety management system in Flight Operator, Aerodrome and ANSP

• the SSP components and elements. 

• the links of the SSP and the SMS within the industry

• the SMS components and elements, and

• the ICAO-ZCAA model
